Microsoft has resolved a significant issue that caused Office 365 applications, including Classic Outlook, to crash on Windows Server 2016 and 2019 systems. This problem originated from a recent Office update that incorporated the React Native framework for certain Microsoft 365 features, impacting users who updated to Version 2412 (Build 18324.20168).
According to user reports, applications like Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint crashed within 15 seconds of opening. Microsoft acknowledged the issue after receiving multiple complaints and released a fix on January 16, 2025.
For users whose Microsoft 365 Apps are set to auto-update via the Office Content Delivery Network (CDN), no action is required. However, if updates are managed manually, users can download and deploy the latest update from the Office website.
In cases where the update is not applied automatically or cannot be installed right away, users have the option to revert temporarily to an earlier version (Version 2411, Build 18227.20162) by executing specific commands in an elevated Command Prompt. To avoid future updates, users can disable automatic updates through the Office Account settings.
