Microsoft has recently acknowledged issues arising from its latest security updates affecting both server and desktop operating systems, specifically involving domain controllers and Windows 11 clients.
In the Windows Release Health Center, Microsoft reported that Windows Server 2025, when acting as a domain controller (DC), may struggle to correctly manage network traffic following a reboot. This situation can lead to inaccessibility of the DC within the domain network or incorrect access through network ports unintended by the domain firewall profile. The problem stems from the domain firewall profile failing on restart, defaulting instead to the standard firewall profile. As a temporary fix, IT administrators can use the command Restart-NetAdapter *
in PowerShell to restore the appropriate behavior. Microsoft also suggests setting up a scheduled task to automate this process, working on a permanent solution.
In another concerning development, Windows 11 clients are encountering issues as well. Post-update, a new folder %systemdrive%inetpub
is created, which must not be deleted, even if Internet Information Services (IIS) is not enabled. This folder’s creation is part of a security enhancement to address a privilege escalation vulnerability (CVE-2025-21204, CVSS 7.8 – classified as high risk).
Additionally, users have reported encountering Blue Screens of Death (BSoD) with the error code 0x18B after installing the latest updates. This error indicates a SECURE_KERNEL_ERROR. In response, Microsoft has initiated the Known Issue Rollback (KIR) mechanism, which will be effective within 24 hours on customer and non-managed devices, removing the problematic update components.
The recent updates have plagued Microsoft. Only last weekend, a separate problem concerning group policy display issues led the company to push an out-of-sequence update to rectify these inconsistencies.
