Microsoft has updated the Windows 11 version 24H2 installation media to provide the latest versions of in-box apps directly at the installation point, eliminating the need for users to update these applications after setup. This enhancement also extends to Windows Server 2025.
According to Jerry Huang from Microsoft’s Tech Community, when users install Windows 11 version 24H2 or Windows Server 2025 using the refreshed media from June 2025 onward, the system will come pre-installed with updated versions of various apps. This change aims to offer a more secure, compliant, and user-friendly experience right from the start.
The update affects ISOs, virtual hard disks (VHDs), and Azure Marketplace images. A long list of apps, including Alarms & Clock, Calculator, Media Player, Notepad, Microsoft Store, and Windows Security, will now be available in their latest versions out-of-the-box. This approach is beneficial as it reduces the risk of security vulnerabilities caused by outdated applications.
In addition to improved security, this update streamlines the installation process by minimizing the number of immediate updates that need to be downloaded through Windows Update, the Microsoft Store, or the Windows Package Manager. Users who frequently install Windows 11 will find that they spend less time waiting for updates and can begin using the latest app features right away.
Users who utilize Microsoft’s Media Creation Tool should acquire the new Windows 11 installer to update their USB media, or they can obtain the ISO directly from Microsoft.
