Clear Linux was specifically tailored for high-performance computing, particularly in cloud environments and data centers. Unlike traditional desktop distributions like Ubuntu or Fedora, it focused on optimizing performance rather than general hardware compatibility. This included advanced features such as aggressive compiler optimizations and profile-guided optimizations, which allowed it to achieve remarkable performance benchmarks, especially on Intel hardware, though it also performed impressively on AMD systems.
The discontinuation of Clear Linux comes amid significant restructuring at Intel, including layoffs of over 5,000 employees and cost-cutting measures.
