Microsoft has acknowledged issues with the August security updates for Windows 11 that are deployed through Windows Server Update Services (WSUS). Users may encounter installation failures accompanied by the error code 0x80240069. The company is actively working on a fix.
According to the Windows Release Health Notes, the errors mainly stem from the installation of security update KB5063878 from the August Patchday focused on Windows 11 24H2.
To address this, Microsoft is implementing a temporary fix using the “Known Issue Rollback” (KIR) feature for corporate environments with managed devices. IT administrators can download the appropriate group policy and access it under “Computer Configuration”—“Administrative Templates.” Documentation is available to guide administrators on how to effectively deploy the known issue rollback via group policies.
An alternative workaround includes manually installing the August updates either through Windows Update or from the Windows Update Catalog. Microsoft has indicated that a permanent solution will be delivered with a future update that will eliminate the need for the group policy workaround.
