Users are reporting error messages after installing the updates, specifically affecting the Message Queuing (MSMQ) functionality. MSMQ is a network protocol that facilitates messaging between applications and services. The recent updates (KB5071546) have led to issues where MSMQ queues become inactive, causing various errors such as “Insufficient resources to perform operation” or failures in applications trying to write to message queues. Some users have even experienced misleading log entries that claim there is insufficient disk space or memory, despite having adequate resources available.
The core of the problem appears to be changes in the MSMQ security model and NTFS access rights for the folder “C:WindowsSystem32MSMQstorage”. Users now require write access to this directory, which is generally limited to administrators. Thus, any attempts to utilize MSMQ APIs may result in resource errors.
As of now, Microsoft is investigating the issue and will release further updates once they have resolved these problems.
