Windows 11’s Settings app has undergone significant improvements since its launch four years ago, transitioning many functions from the traditional Control Panel to a more user-friendly interface.
Recently, in the Windows Server build 26376 for insiders, several mouse settings have been transferred from the Control Panel to the Settings app. A user on X (formerly Twitter) reported that all options previously found in the classic mouse properties dialog are now available directly in Settings. This includes features like pointer trails, pointer shadows, and customizable pointer images, which were traditionally accessed through the Control Panel.
The new additions enhance usability by allowing users to enable a mouse indicator when pressing the Ctrl key, adjust pointer trails and their size, enable cursor shadows, and individual image customization for pointers. Microsoft has also updated icons for existing features like cursor speed and enhanced pointer precision, creating a unified look within the app.
While these updates are only currently available in the insider build for server users, they signal a continued effort by Microsoft to streamline user experience by reducing reliance on the outdated Control Panel. The overall goal remains clear: to establish a cohesive and approachable interface for all Windows users.
