Microsoft has revealed the latest Windows Server 2025 Preview Build 26304. This new version is part of the forthcoming Windows Server Long-Term Servicing Channel (LTSC) Preview, which introduces both the Desktop Experience and Server Core installation options for the Datacenter and Standard editions of Windows Server 2025, as well as the Windows Server 2025 Annual Channel preview for Container Host and Azure Edition.
The updated 26304 build features new branding for Windows Server 2025. Those who are Windows Server Insiders and opted into Server Flighting should automatically receive this build.
Windows Defender Application Control for Business (WDAC) introduces a robust software-based security layer aimed at minimizing the attack surface through the enforcement of a clear list of permitted software. For Windows Server 2025, Microsoft has rolled out a ‘default policy’ that can be implemented on the server using PowerShell cmdlets.
Another significant addition is the Windows Server 2025 Security Baseline Preview, which includes over 350 preconfigured security settings for Windows. These settings allow for the application and enforcement of detailed security measures that align with Microsoft’s best practices and industry standards. This effort is part of the ongoing security enhancements initiated by the tech giant from Redmond, which began with a previous version when virtual machines were made the safest they’ve ever been.
The content of the security baseline is categorized into three distinct roles: Domain Controller (DC), Member Server, and Workgroup Member. It is crucial to mention that the security baseline should only be evaluated on testing systems, as some configurations may not be reversible.
Moreover, the newly introduced Feedback Hub app is now accessible for Windows Server Desktop users. This app is designed to update automatically to the latest version; however, if it fails to do so, users can easily check for updates in the app’s settings menu.
