Microsoft Acknowledges DHCP Issue Affecting Windows Server Updates KB5060526 and KB5060531

Microsoft has acknowledged a significant issue affecting the Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server service following the recent updates to Windows Server. Specifically, users reported that after installing the June 2025 updates, which include KB5060526, KB5060531, and KB5061010, the DHCP service may either stop responding or completely fail to connect.

The problem has been observed across several versions of Windows Server, including Windows Server 2025, 2022, 2019, and 2016. Many users indicated that upon installation, their DHCP server connection would fail shortly after booting, typically between 20 to 50 seconds. Some reported losing DHCP leases, leading to internet connectivity issues for devices on their networks.

One user shared their frustration, stating their organization was experiencing significant disruptions since the update. Another mentioned taking preventive measures by declining the relevant updates on their domain controllers, which provide DHCP services.

DHCP is crucial in corporate, educational, and government networks as it automates the assignment of IP addresses to devices, ensuring they can access the internet and internal systems. Following the reports, Microsoft confirmed through a support ticket that they are actively investigating the matter. The company has stated that the DHCP server service could sporadically stop responding after the installation of the security updates, impacting the IP renewal process for clients.

Microsoft plans to release a standalone update that can be downloaded manually for all affected versions. For those experiencing DHCP issues, they can uninstall the relevant updates to restore functionality, albeit at the cost of leaving their systems vulnerable until a fix is applied.

Additionally, another issue has emerged where CJK (Chinese, Japanese, Korean) text fails to display correctly at a resolution of 96 DPI or a scaling factor of 100%. Preliminary investigations indicate that this may be linked to updates from Google Chromium.

To address DHCP problems, users can uninstall the problematic updates by navigating to Settings > Windows Update > Update History, identifying the relevant KB number, and selecting "Uninstall." After removal, a system reboot should restore DHCP functionality.

Affected users of Windows 11 also face a variety of issues, highlighting broader challenges with recent updates across Microsoft’s platform.
