Microsoft released a new update for Edge 124 in the Stable Channel. Version 124.0.2478.67 is now available for download with a few important changes, fixes, and security patches.
Initially, the new Edge 124 update takes back the error-regulated 8KB Copilot app on Windows Server along with alternative versions. The installation of Edge 124.0.2478.67 results in the removal of “Microsoft chat provider for Copilot in Windows” from the list of installed applications:
The removal of “Microsoft chat provider for Copilot in Windows” from the devices of Windows Server. This element was incorrectly installed on a few devices during the previous Microsoft Edge update.
The shift seems to only impact Windows Server, and in another file, Microsoft recently confirmed this blunder, stating that a future upgrade will alleviate the issue on consumer editions of Windows:
An upcoming Microsoft Edge version is anticipated to remove or tweak the installation of this component on certain client devices.
Microsoft Edge 124.0.2478.67 introduces new features like security alerts for HTTP downloads (scheduled to be active in Edge 127) and email alerts for extension requests made by users, aiding IT Administrators.
Notice: Unsafe downloads via HTTP
Users who download potentially harmful content from HTTP websites will get a UI warning (e.g., “sample.exe cannot be downloaded securely”). Even so, users can choose to continue the download by selecting “Keep” from the downloaded item’s “…” dropdown. Additionally, Administrators can implement the InsecureContentAllowedForUrls policy to designate HTTP websites where this warning should not appear. The warning feature was unintentionally activated in Edge 124, but has since been removed in this Stable Release. Administrators can make use of the InsecureDownloadWarnings feature flag to gauge its influence for upcoming inclusion.
Email alerts regarding extension requests in the Microsoft Edge management service.
The Microsoft Edge management service now provides admins with the ability to receive email notifications for extensions that their users have requested. Once enabled, this will help inform them promptly of any new pending requests that they may have.
Finally, the latest Microsoft Edge update fixed three security vulnerabilities in Chromium:
You can update Microsoft Edge to version 124.0.2478.67 by going to edge://settings/help. If the user does not take action, the browser will update itself automatically upon the next restart.
