Microsoft has recently addressed a critical problem affecting some Windows Server 2025 domain controllers, which were becoming unreachable following a restart. This issue led to disruptions in applications and services running on those servers.
Previously acknowledged by Microsoft, this connectivity problem stemmed from the servers reverting to the default firewall profile instead of maintaining the profile linked to the domain network upon restarting. This condition caused difficulties in managing network traffic effectively, making certain applications and services inaccessible or problematic.
To remedy this, Microsoft released the KB5060842 security update during June 2025’s Patch Tuesday, which resolves the initial issue preventing proper network access.
For users who cannot apply this update right away, a temporary solution is available. Administrators can manually restart the network adapter on the affected servers using the PowerShell command Restart-NetAdapter. However, be aware that this workaround must be done after every restart until the update is installed, as the problem will recur each time.
In addition to this fix, Microsoft has tackled another issue where some users faced login difficulties with Windows Hello after installing the KB5055523 security update in April 2025. This earlier update also caused authentication challenges related to systems using Credential Guard and the Kerberos PKINIT pre-authentication protocol.
