Microsoft has issued a warning to IT administrators about a potential issue with Windows Server 2025 domain controllers. According to a recent update on the Windows release health dashboard, domain controllers may lose network connectivity following a restart. This malfunction affects servers running the Active Directory domain controller role, leading to applications and services becoming inaccessible.
The problem arises because, after a reboot, the domain controllers fail to use the domain firewall profile and revert to the standard firewall profile. This misconfiguration may result in incorrect access being granted over protected ports and protocols, thus allowing unauthorized access or functionality.
Microsoft is actively working on a patch for this issue, but in the meantime, administrators can mitigate the effects by implementing a workaround. The recommended solution is to manually restart the network adapter each time the server reboots. This can be done using the PowerShell command Restart-NetAdapter *, or by setting up a scheduled task to automate the process upon server restart.
