Microsoft has unveiled the general release of Windows Server 2025, emphasizing its new design focused on enhancing security and performance.
Reportedly “customized to cater to a wide range of customer requirements,” this new version of the server operating system introduces features aimed at simplifying deployment and management, making these processes both safer and more efficient.
Alongside the introduction of a new edition, Redmond has pledged to ensure that earlier versions – such as 2016, 2019, and 2022 – will receive ongoing updates featuring new capabilities.
The debut of Windows Server 2025 follows several months after the company dealt with significant security challenges. Consequently, this update incorporates an array of layered security enhancements, including Active Directory with additional cryptographic support for both identification and authentication, hardening of Server Message Block (SMB) against cyber threats, and Delegate Managed Service Accounts (dMSA) for improved password management along with greater visibility for administrators.
On the cloud side, Microsoft has introduced ‘hotpatching’ for specific applications within Windows Server 2025 operating on physical machines, virtual machines, on-premises, or multicloud servers, facilitating software updates, backup, and recovery with minimized downtime.
As expected, Windows Server 2025 includes several modifications tailored for artificial intelligence, such as GPU partitioning and enhanced NVMe storage performance, achieving up to 60% more storage IOPS performance compared to Windows Server 2022.
The announcement arrives alongside the debut of System Center 2025, aimed at streamlining the management of extensive computer networks. This includes functionalities such as remote access, patch updates, software deployment, operating system installation, and inventory oversight.
