Microsoft is reportedly working on a new network card that might enhance the performance of its Maia AI server chip, potentially reducing dependency on chip designer Nvidia. This was revealed in a report by the Information on Tuesday.
Microsoft’s CEO, Satya Nadella, has tasked Pradeep Sindhu, co-founder of networking gear creator Juniper Networks, to lead the network card project, as per the cited report which quotes an individual possessing knowledge about the situation.
The tech giant had previously bought Sindhu’s server chip startup, Fungible, the previous year.
There was no immediate response from Microsoft when asked for a comment by Reuters.
